Following from the success of earlier BIOfutures conversations, we’re delighted to announce further episodes with thought leaders in biomaterials, biodesign, and bioinnovation. In contrast to our inaugural series, rather than run nine consecutive episodes over a period of several weeks, we’ll roll out three sessions in a single afternoon, starting on March 1st - World Futures Day.
Hosted by Bioratorium® here on Substack and supported by Lifeboat Foundation in association with The Millenium Project, the event will be part of a bigger conversation around our possible futures. Rolling out worldwide, World Futures Day features 24-hours of rolling 1hr events that go around the globe and feature prominent future thinkers including pioneer of the Internet - Vint Cerf.
A member of the Lifeboat Foundation since 2013, our founder Dr. Melissa Sterry has invited three of the most exciting minds working with nature worldwide to join her in discussion: artist, designer, and certified scuba diver exploring intersections between art, technology, and living systems Kasia Molga; Planet of the Grapes founder Samantha Mureau; and biodesigner, engineer, and BIOcrafted founder Chris Bellamy.
Subscribe to our channel for updates on timings, which will be announced later this week, as well as news of our next three In Conversations sessions, which will roll out on International Women’s Day, March 8th.
BIOfutures in Conversation
In Conversation convenes visionary thinkers at the forefront of biology, design, technology, and art to explore how life itself is reshaping the future. Hosted by Bioratorium® founder, design scientist, systems theorist, and designer Dr. Melissa Sterry, the series offers an intimate yet globally resonant platform for exchange, bringing together leading researchers, designers, and innovators whose work spans biodesign, biomaterials, biotechnology, and beyond.
World Futures Day
World Futures Day, held annually on 1 March, is a 24-hour global online conversation exploring possible futures for humanity. Hosted by The Millennium Project with five international foresight partners, the 13th annual event begins at noon in New Zealand and concludes 24 hours later in Hawaii. Participants worldwide are invited to join discussions with leading futurists and thought leaders on emerging trends, innovations, and alternative futures.
Lifeboat Foundation
Lifeboat Foundation is a nonprofit nongovernmental organisation dedicated to encouraging scientific advancements while helping humanity survive existential risks and possible misuse of increasingly powerful technologies, including genetic engineering, nanotechnology, and robotics/AI, as we move towards the Singularity.
The Millenium Project
The Millennium Project is a global participatory think thank, that produces hardheaded, practical reasons to be hopeful about the future. It was established in 1996 under the American Council for the United Nations University after a three-year feasibility study funded by the United Nations University, US Environmental Protection Agency, UN Development Program and UNESCO. It became an independent non-profit in 2009 and has grown to 70 Nodes (a group of institutions and individuals that connect local and global perspectives) around the world and three regional networks in Europe, Latin America, and South Asia.
